Mary and Martha, symbols for contemplative and active life

The touch of the Holy Spirit, its radiative activity, leads the pupil right to the heart of real life, to an intense activity — for the salvation of one child of man means at the same time the calling and awakening of many others.

You will be on the path as soon as the Holy Spirit has touched you with its radiation-power, when you have become receptive to it and react to it. And if you do react, the result will always be that you are led away into the desert by the Holy Spirit. This means a task in one’s own being and a task in the world.  Continue reading

Transfiguration: replacing the mortal man with the Spirit man — an excerpt from ‘Transfiguration’ by Catharose de Petri

Transfiguration is a gnostic method of accomplishing the endura, which is the process of completely replacing the mortal, separative, earth-born human being with the original, immortal, divine being — the true Spirit-Human-Being intended by the divine plan of creation.

It could be that some people cannot help feeling a sense of disappointment at this statement, because in a little corner of their minds they still harbour the thought that, through transfiguration, they might somehow be able to preserve their own selves. This is because they put their own interpretation on the words of Jesus the Lord, which they think mean: He who is willing to lose his life through the endura shall keep it through transfiguration. However, since transfiguration and the endura go hand in hand, what will be kept according to Jesus’ words cannot possibly involve any aspect of the dialectical being. Continue reading

Spirit and Holy Spirit — an extract from ‘The Seal of Renewal’ by Cathatrose de Petri

In the first chapter of the gospel according to John (1:32-34) we read:

“And John bore witness, saying: I saw the Spirit descending as a dove from Heaven and it remained on Him. I myself did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me: He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”

In these words you will notice that a distinction is made between Spirit and Holy Spirit. Spirit becomes Holy Spirit only when it can descend upon a human being and remain upon him. This is an exceedingly instructive and remarkable evangelical fact and it is completely endorsed by the modern universal doctrine. Continue reading

The cross of light – introduction from the book ‘Spiritual Easter and Pentecost’ by Daniël van Egmond

Easter should actually be celebrated around the spring equinox. Between 21 and 23 March, the light of the day is exactly in balance with the darkness of the night. But because the determination of the exact day of this festival is based on the lunar calendar of the pre-Christian Jewish tradition – the first Sunday on or after the equinox on which it is full moon – Easter is often celebrated many days after the equinox. Nevertheless, its spiritual meaning is closely linked to the symbolism of this balance between day and night. The night symbolizes our daily life: as long as Continue reading

First week before Christmas: Man is the truth and falsehood strangely mixed

Spiritual Christmas The Aquarian Gospel 22

One day as Jesus and Lamaas walked alone in plaza Jagannath, Lamaas said, my Jewish master, what is truth?

And Jesus said, truth is the only thing that changes not. In all the world there are two things; the one is truth; the other falsehood is; and truth is that which is, and falsehood that which seems to be. Now truth is aught, and has Continue reading

The wonder of the light-birth, introduction from Daniël van Egmond from the book ‘Spiritual Christmas’

Spiritual Christmas Daniel van EgmondDuring the autumn equinox light and darkness are precisely in balance with each other. Subsequently the influence of the darkness begins to increase more and more as the power of the light is fading. The darkness is the deepest around Christmas and we can only wait in confidence until the light is born again. That is how people of yore experienced the alternation and struggle between the light and the darkness in their own lives.

Before villages and towns were bathed in electric light, the increasing darkness was almost tangible to the inhabitants and they could not help but eagerly await the new light. They heard stories about the miraculous birth that took place in this darkness in the distant past: God’s son was born in a hidden place in order to liberate humanity from the darkness. The light that would soon become stronger again was a sign of this birth. It was not only an external light but could also be experienced as an inner light that pierced the darkness of everyday life.
