Mary and Martha, symbols for contemplative and active life

The touch of the Holy Spirit, its radiative activity, leads the pupil right to the heart of real life, to an intense activity — for the salvation of one child of man means at the same time the calling and awakening of many others.

You will be on the path as soon as the Holy Spirit has touched you with its radiation-power, when you have become receptive to it and react to it. And if you do react, the result will always be that you are led away into the desert by the Holy Spirit. This means a task in one’s own being and a task in the world.  Continue reading

What is Initiation in gnostic sense?

By Initiation we understand the entrance, step by step, into the Hierarchy, and the sacramental sealing of powers and faculties pertaining to the original man, in the reborn, new man.

These powers and faculties, this new state-of-being, are preserved and guarded by the Hierarchy as mysteries. We shall divide them in seven aspects: Continue reading

The brazen and the fiery serpents of the staff of Mercury or the Caduceus replaced by the golden serpents of the tree of life

Each of you carries a serpent within your being. This serpent coils in and around your tree of life. The head of the beast is clearly visible to the ordinary physical vision. In the Holy Language the serpent is designated symbolically as ‘the brazen serpent’. It is your soul being, the radiation of your consciousness, the soul-potential filling your entire serpent-fire system, that is your head-spinal system. It is this brazen serpent that creeps over the earth with a deadly venom in its head.

Why is it referred to as a brazen serpent? The hebrew word ‘copper’ may also be translated as ‘serpent’. Then we must realize that copper — ergo the serpent — is a female principle. The Venus metal is copper. The generating principle, the female principle, lies in the soul, in the serpent-fire potential.

But the creative principle, the male soul-aspect lies in the same system. In every soul system, in every serpent-fire system there are two aspects, the brazen serpent and the fiery serpent, or respectively the female and the male aspect within us. Continue reading

Transfiguration: replacing the mortal man with the Spirit man — an excerpt from ‘Transfiguration’ by Catharose de Petri

Transfiguration is a gnostic method of accomplishing the endura, which is the process of completely replacing the mortal, separative, earth-born human being with the original, immortal, divine being — the true Spirit-Human-Being intended by the divine plan of creation.

It could be that some people cannot help feeling a sense of disappointment at this statement, because in a little corner of their minds they still harbour the thought that, through transfiguration, they might somehow be able to preserve their own selves. This is because they put their own interpretation on the words of Jesus the Lord, which they think mean: He who is willing to lose his life through the endura shall keep it through transfiguration. However, since transfiguration and the endura go hand in hand, what will be kept according to Jesus’ words cannot possibly involve any aspect of the dialectical being. Continue reading

Spirit and Holy Spirit — an extract from ‘The Seal of Renewal’ by Cathatrose de Petri

In the first chapter of the gospel according to John (1:32-34) we read:

“And John bore witness, saying: I saw the Spirit descending as a dove from Heaven and it remained on Him. I myself did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me: He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”

In these words you will notice that a distinction is made between Spirit and Holy Spirit. Spirit becomes Holy Spirit only when it can descend upon a human being and remain upon him. This is an exceedingly instructive and remarkable evangelical fact and it is completely endorsed by the modern universal doctrine. Continue reading

The law of karma and remission of guilt, ‘what you sow you will reap’, and the redemption of mankind

All microcosms that are not yet able to participate in the process of the first resurrection remain bound to the law of reincarnation and also to that other emergency law — the law of karma, the law of cause and effect; the law that teaches: “what one sows one will have to reap”.

This means that, quite logically and scientifically, the life of the next personality will adapt itself to this life. Whatever man takes up he has to fulfil, whatever he unchains he has to accept. So a new phase of existence begins where the previous one ended.

No one receives a task that is too heavy, every life brings not only a burden but also a potential. Bondage to the past does exist, but at the same time a path to liberation is shown. Even though the past cannot be revoked, the law of karma keeps open the possibility of using the present Continue reading
