FOREWORD

This volume contains the collected texts of the symposium The golden thread of the free mind, held in Tarascon-sur-Ariège on September 10, 11, 12, 2021.

The symposium is organized on the occasion of the publication of ‘Places where the Spirit breathes’. The Sabarthez as a mirror of humanity. Antoine Gadal 1877-1962, Life, work and transmission of the Cathar Gnosis, by publishing house Rozekruis Pers. As a tribute to Antoine Gadal, born at Tarascon, we hope with this publication to bring back a representation of his life to the Sabarthez, one of the regions in Occitania where the Cathar Gnosis was once 3 able to express itself. The Rozekruis Pers is particularly honoured to present the first French copy to the Mayor of Tarascon-sur Ariège, Mr. Alain Sutra.

The nine speakers whose texts are collected in this volume each highlight one of the subjects or areas of interest in which Antoine Gadal also immersed himself. Gadal’s interests were broad. His findings fitted into an overall picture: the picture of the universal human being, who wants to explore and know every depth of God’s creation, because he is a free spirit.

The themes discussed are: God is Love (Mirjam Duivenvoorden); The origin and life of man – the Volp caves (Robert Bégouën); Cave painting and its significance for Homo Sapiens (Philippe Grosos); Getting to know the spiritual power God has given to man (Eric Palazzo); The influence of Catharism – seeking God above all else and loving others as oneself (Eduard Berga Salomó); The soul in which Love can unfold (Maria Bartels); The place and priestly role of women in Cathar life (Gwendoline Hancke); The relationship between faith and reason to arrive at knowledge (Sergi Grau Torras); The free mind – a spirit of humanity, spirituality and transformation (Peter Huijs).

A special thanks goes to the many friends at home and abroad who made it possible for this symposium volume to appear in five languages.
